Wiring up a Spektrum DX5e with Cannon and M G Buttons
Transmitter Mods
I wanted to mod the Spektrum DX5e and add a machine gun and cannon firing button on the transmitter.
First step was to remove the back of the transmitter. Once I had the back off I realized that the transmitter case was already drilled for holes on the front face. I enlarged these holes and then threaded in two push button mometary switches. The picture at the left shows what it looks like with the buttons in place.

Internal modifcations
Wiring this up is pretty easy. The middle connection on the potentiometer is common to both buttons and is identifed with the yellow star.
Red star identifies the wire that goes to the Cannon button
Blue star indicates the wire that runs to the MG button. There is a 6800 ohm resistor inline. This 6800 ohm resistor causes the button to mimic the signal from the DBC3 to fire the machine gun when the button is pressed.I have included a graphic below to help.
